The hypothesis was that if movies were as cheap as paperback movies people would not copy them. This hypothesis held true for a couple of decades -- oops they trusted us and we got DVDs and DeCSS :)
This project yielded the first motion picture playing off a CDroom on a IBM PC AT using spatio-temporal image quantization.
