OLPC Software Task List

At its most basic:

Linux operating system.

World Wide Web browser.

Electronic book viewer: full color illustrations or LDC text-only.

Video/audio player.

Word processor.

Calculator.

Sketchbook/paint program.

Interactive learning games and software "toys."


More than one of the above tasks may be covered by a single program.


With 500 mb of flash memory, and 128 mb of ram, the $100 laptop will not be tied to a specific set of software or content. It will have the flexibility to change with the requirements of the student. Individuals will inevitably find individualized uses.


What won't appear on the software task list:


Any software requiring CD-ROM levels of storage space such as large multimedia files and games.

Software written for other operating systems.

Software requiring large amounts of storage and extremely high processing loads.
