Me at What The Hack

I am Benjamin Mako Hill and this is my old homepage at the lab. I was a Masters student at the lab between 2005 and 2007. Initially, I was in the Electronic Publishing research group working with Walter Bender and then switched into the Computing Culture group with Chris Csikczentmihalyi when Walter left the lab. Walter still supervised my thesis. I am particularly interested in issues of collaboration and collaborative publishing.

My background is in the Free Software community where I have worked on a number of distributions including the Debian Project and Ubuntu. I am spending some of my time this year acting as the software guy for the Media Lab's $100 Laptop Project.

I keep a very up-to-date website with a list of my projects, interests, and papers. I also have a blog and contact information. You can find more information about me in all of these forms here:

Please don't hesitate to get in contact with me at mako@media.mit.edu if you any questions.
